This course is intended for a grade 12 Fine & Performing Arts student who wishes to extend and demonstrate their understanding and growth as an artist. It is one of the prerequisites for those students who wish to obtain a “Calgary Board of Education Fine & Performing Arts Certificate” at the end of their grade 12 year. In order to be eligible for the Fine and Performing Arts Certificate students must have a minimum of 40 credits in the Fine and Performing Arts courses by the end of his or her grade 12 year.

Professional Development in the Arts 35 (Known as “PD in the Arts”) allows students to purposefully reflect upon learning experiences in the Fine Arts disciplines as well as explore the possibilities of the process involved in preparing for a career pathway connected to the Fine & Performing Arts. Investigations, researching institutions, creating connections with artists, and portfolio development shall occur during this program of studies. The program is intended to assist students to make informed decisions about their possibilities in the Fine & Performing Arts.

Fine Arts Certificate

In order to be eligible for the Fine and Performing Arts Certificate students must have a minimum of 40 credits in the Fine and Performing Arts courses by the end of his or her grade 12 year. Five of these credits will be earned by successfully completing the Professional Development in the Arts 35 course. The balance of credits will be earned in the various Arts courses offered at Western Canada High School including: Visual Arts, Drama, Music, Film, Photography, and Digital Media.
